198

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) is set to stage protests across the country today against Independent Power Producers (IPPs) after the expiration of the 45-day agreement. In a press conference held at Idara Noor-e-Haq, Karachi, JI Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman announced that demonstrations will take place at hundreds of locations nationwide. In Karachi alone, protests will be staged at 13 different locations.

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman mentioned that the party has several options, including sit-ins in Islamabad, long marches, and non-payment of electricity bills. He stated that after the 45-day deadline was not honored, JI is free to take further action.

He emphasized that the protests will continue until the government fulfills its promises and warned that the sit-ins will expand. JI also plans to hold a referendum against the expensive electricity provided by IPPs to gather public opinion.

Additionally, JI has launched a membership campaign across the country, which has seen participation from people of all ages. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman highlighted that their earlier postponed sit-in marked the beginning of their movement.

Upcoming events include a public rally in Chitral on October 2, followed by rallies in Faisalabad on October 4 and Karachi on October 6.
