Punjab Enforces Section 144 on Mining and Tree Cutting in Attock and Chakwal

55
The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in Attock and Chakwal districts for two months to regulate mining and tree cutting activities. In Attock, unauthorized gold mining around the Indus River is now prohibited. Section 144 also restricts the transportation of mining machinery within the district for two months.
Additionally, the Punjab government has banned tree cutting and timber transportation in Chakwal, applying to both private and public lands. This step is taken to protect the natural environment, local communities, and wildlife. The large-scale deforestation in the region has increased the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.
