In a tragic incident, multiple migrants attempting to cross from France to the UK by sea have drowned. French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau described the event as a “horrific tragedy,” blaming human smugglers for the loss of life.
According to media reports, at least four migrants, including a child, have died in two separate incidents.
Local newspaper La Voix Du Nord reported that three people drowned near Calais, and one person died off the coast of Boulogne, with rescue operations still underway. The French minister condemned the human traffickers responsible, saying their hands are stained with the blood of the victims.
