A migrant boat sank off the southern coast of Greece, leaving five people dead and many others missing, according to international media reports. The tragedy occurred near Greece’s southern island on Saturday, with the Greek Coast Guard confirming the incident.
Most of the boat’s occupants were reportedly Pakistanis. Search and rescue operations are underway to locate the missing passengers.
The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the boat capsized south of Crete. Initial reports indicate that one Pakistani citizen has been confirmed dead, while 47 Pakistanis were among those rescued.
In response to the incident, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the Pakistani embassy in Greece to establish a special emergency cell to assist with the situation.
