WhatsApp has introduced new features for its Status feature, similar to Instagram Stories, where users can share temporary photos and videos that last for 24 hours. With the latest update, WhatsApp now allows users to mention and tag others in their Status updates. Those who are mentioned can reshare that Status to their own account. Up to five people can be tagged in one Status, and there is an option to tag someone without showing their name.
Additionally, WhatsApp has added a “like” button to Status updates, making it easier for friends to respond with just one tap. This brings the Status feature closer to the experience of Instagram Stories.
In a blog post, WhatsApp stated, “We’re making Status even better with features like status likes, private mentions, and the ability to reshare a status you’re mentioned in. It’s now easier to stay connected with the people who matter most.”
WhatsApp also mentioned that these new features might not be available to everyone yet. “We’re building and testing out new features, like Status Mentions, and they may not be available to you yet. In the meantime, we recommend keeping WhatsApp updated on your device so you can get the feature as soon as it’s available,” the company added in its blog post.
