A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology, chaired by Senator Palwasha Khan, raised concerns about the recent appointment of the new IT Secretary. The committee has requested detailed information on the 77 candidates considered for the position.
According to the Special Secretary of the Establishment Division, the new IT Secretary was appointed with a salary of Rs 1.8 million. Senator Humayun Mohmand asked for the qualifications and experience of all the candidates to be presented to the committee.
Anusha Rehman defended the appointment, stating, “Let the Secretary do their job; you are scrutinizing this without cause.” However, Chairperson Palwasha Khan clarified, “We are not stopping the Secretary from working, but transparency is necessary.”
The Special Secretary of the Establishment Division assured the committee that the appointment was made following the Terms of Reference (TORs) set by the Prime Minister.
In attendance were Senator Anusha Rahman Ahmed Khan, Senator Mohammad Humayun Mohmand, Senator SaifullahSarwar Khan Nyazee, Senator Syed Kazim Ali Shah, Senator Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto, Senator Afnan Ullah Khan, the Secretary of Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication MoITT, the Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the Additional Secretary of Ministry of Interior, the Special Secretary, Establishment Division and the senior officials from the concerned department.
