33

The Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology, chaired by Senator Palwasha Khan, held a meeting to address the widespread internet service disruptions affecting the country. The committee has requested a detailed report on the losses incurred due to the slow internet service and directed that the issues with the internet and social media be resolved within two weeks.

During the session, Senator Afnan Ullah highlighted that the slow internet has resulted in losses of at least 500 million, with users unable to download or upload on social media platforms like WhatsApp, and many e-commerce forums leaving the market.

The Senate IT Committee also requested a Network Quality Survey of Pakistan, to be presented at the next meeting. Chairperson Palwasha Khan instructed that a briefing on the survey of 20 cities be provided and a complete report on Kashmore’s internet issues be submitted within two weeks.

The agenda regarding the firewall was postponed, as the committee had previously requested an in-camera briefing on the matter.
