The National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) has issued an advisory warning about potential cyber threats linked to AI chatbots like ChatGPT.

According to the advisory:

  • The use of AI chatbots for professional and personal tasks is increasing.
  • These chatbots often store important and sensitive information, including business strategies and private conversations, which could be at risk of being leaked.
  • Cybercriminals are using advanced techniques, including phishing through fake chatbots, to trick users into sharing confidential data.

The advisory recommends:

  • Avoid sharing sensitive information, such as personal or business-related details, in AI chatbot conversations.
  • Disable the “chat saving” feature during chatbot interactions.
  • Develop strong frameworks to protect against AI chatbot-related cyber risks.
  • Organizations should prepare crisis communication plans to handle potential cyberattacks.

Users are urged to be cautious while using AI chatbots and limit sharing sensitive data.
