PTA Alerts Public on Nationwide Internet Slowdown Due to Submarine Cable Issues

56

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has informed the public about a nationwide internet slowdown and degradation, caused by the malfunction of two of the seven submarine cables connecting Pakistan to the international network.

The AAE-1 cable has experienced a 250G outage due to rerouting between Iran and Qatar, while the SMW4 cable (1.5T) is damaged near Karachi. To minimize the impact on internet users in Pakistan, operators are rerouting traffic through other available cables.

Efforts are underway to repair the damaged cables, and the PTA is closely monitoring the situation until internet speeds return to normal. Further updates will be provided as the situation progresses.
