Pakistan’s first multi-mission satellite, MM1, is now operational following successful testing. For the first time, the satellite offers broadband services as part of its features.
Minister of State for Information Technology, Shaza Fatima, announced that Pakistan’s first National Space Policy has been established. Speaking at the test ceremony of the PakSat MM1 satellite, she mentioned that the satellite will transform the lives of people in underdeveloped areas. The Space Policy will offer many benefits, as no sector can progress without connectivity, and this satellite provides a vital internet link.
She further explained that Pakistan is a large country where delivering internet to rural areas is challenging. PakSat MM1 can play a key role in improving connectivity in these regions. Once education and healthcare are digitized, it will bring a revolution to Pakistan, something that hasn’t been achieved in the past seven decades. The Health Tag initiative aims to link a citizen’s medical history to their national ID card.
Shaza Fatima also highlighted that digitalization will protect individual lives, and Pakistan’s performance has improved in the UN’s e-governance report over the past two years.
