The Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Hafeez-ur-Rehman, has clarified that no Virtual Private Network (VPN) has been blocked in the country and there are no plans to do so.
Speaking at the launch of PTA’s Annual Report 2024, Hafeez-ur-Rehman stated, “We have previously mentioned that we can block VPNs, but we have not and will not block them. To date, no VPN has been restricted.”
He further emphasized transparency, saying, “Gone are the days when hiding information was possible. Questions about internet shutdowns in the name of national security are raised, and we often don’t have clear answers.”
The PTA chairman also highlighted that queries related to national security and internet disruptions should be directed toward policymakers.
