Instagram Launches Teen Accounts with Enhanced Protections for Safety

105

Meta has announced the introduction of Instagram Teen Accounts, designed to keep teens safe while using the platform. These accounts come with built-in protections that limit who can contact teens and the types of content they see, helping to ensure a positive online experience. Teens under 16 will need their parents’ permission to change these settings to be less strict.

The new Teen Accounts aim to address parents’ concerns about their children’s online interactions. With private accounts, teens can control who follows them, while messaging restrictions mean they can only receive messages from people they already know. Additionally, sensitive content filters will limit exposure to inappropriate material.

Teen Accounts also include features to promote healthy usage. Teens will receive reminders to take breaks after an hour of use, and sleep mode will automatically mute notifications during the night. This initiative reflects Instagram’s commitment to providing a safer environment for young users while giving parents peace of mind.
