Increase in Illegal VPN Use Due to Slow Internet in Pakistan: PTA Recommends VPN Registration

52

Due to slow internet speeds in Pakistan, there has been a rise in the use of illegal VPNs. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has recommended registering VPNs, stating that using registered VPNs will keep users’ personal data secure and unaffected by firewalls.

PTA has advised the Ministry of IT to finalize the VPN policy soon. The PTA clarified that it does not intend to ban VPNs but rather wants them to be registered. Registration is essential to discourage the use of unregistered VPNs.
