Facebook is rolling out new updates designed to show users even more content from accounts they don’t follow. Among these updates are the introduction of new tabs aimed at surfacing content based on a user’s location and interests.
A new “Local” tab is being tested in 10 U.S. cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Austin, Texas. This tab will aggregate content from various Facebook platforms like Marketplace, local groups, and events. It appears similar to the neighborhood-focused platform Nextdoor.
A new swipeable section in feeds will spotlight local events, notable businesses, and items for sale.
Additionally, Facebook is testing an “Explore” tab, which will function like Instagram’s Explore feature. It will offer users personalized recommendations, including photos, videos, and unique content based on their interests, such as travel tips and DIY tutorials from “real people and expert communities.”
Facebook has also announced an updated full-screen Video tab to give Reels more prominence, alongside new features like AI Comment Summaries and a customizable Group AI for improved user experience in public groups.
Lastly, the company is introducing Messenger Communities, designed for small- to medium-sized groups to connect over shared interests.
