Lack of Sleep Linked to Heart Disease and Mental Health Disorders, Say Experts

302

Getting enough sleep is crucial for maintaining good health. Studies show that insufficient sleep can lead to a range of health problems, including weakened immunity, increased risk of heart disease, and mental health issues like anxiety and depression. Proper sleep allows the body to recover and function optimally, boosting energy levels and improving focus during the day.

In Pakistan, where stressful work environments and long hours are common, sleep disorders are becoming more widespread. Health experts recommend setting a regular sleep schedule and minimizing screen time before bed to ensure better rest and overall well-being.

Chronic sleep deprivation also contributes to weight gain and diabetes. When the body lacks sleep, it disrupts hormones that control hunger and metabolism, leading to overeating and reduced energy levels for physical activity. Over time, this increases the risk of obesity and related health issues. Ensuring at least 7-9 hours of sleep each night is key to maintaining a healthy weight and balanced metabolism.

Additionally, sleep quality plays a significant role in mental clarity and emotional well-being. Poor sleep can impair cognitive functions, making it harder to concentrate and make decisions. It also heightens emotional reactivity, increasing stress and irritability. Experts stress that prioritizing rest is essential for a sharp mind and stable mood.
