Sindh Culture Minister Raises Concerns Over Removal of Mohenjo-Daro Image from Currency Note

Sindh’s Minister for Culture and Tourism, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, has written to the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, expressing concerns over media reports suggesting that the image of Mohenjo-Daro on the Rs. 20 note has been replaced with the Khyber Pass.
In the letter, the minister highlighted that Mohenjo-Daro, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of an ancient civilization, holds immense historical and cultural significance for Pakistan. He urged the State Bank to reconsider, emphasizing that removing the image would overlook Pakistan’s rich heritage.
The State Bank, in an official statement, clarified that the new currency designs were the result of a creative competition and that the designs are not final. The winning designs will be sent to an international firm.
