NEPRA Hearing on K-Electric’s August Monthly Fuel Adjustment

121

During the hearing, a representative from Jamaat-e-Islami stated that K-Electric is not making the agreed-upon investments as per the contract. They also criticized NEPRA, claiming it has failed to assert its authority, and highlighted that Karachi residents face significant difficulties in obtaining new connections.

A representative from the Karachi Chamber of Commerce noted that while other companies’ monthly adjustments are decreasing, K-Electric’s charges are increasing. They further recommended that K-Electric’s power plants should undergo annual capacity tests.

NEPRA officials responded by stating that they are taking action against K-Electric due to complaints regarding net metering and have already issued a show-cause notice.

K-Electric representatives mentioned that providing them with local gas instead of captive power plants could lead to cheaper electricity generation, and this would also lower costs when producing electricity through NTDC.
