Justice Yahya Afridi has been nominated as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan by a special parliamentary committee, which approved his nomination with a two-thirds majority. This was confirmed by Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, who mentioned that Justice Afridi’s name has been sent to the Prime Minister.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif noted that only one vote was cast against Justice Afridi during the decision.

The special closed-door meeting of the parliamentary committee took place at Parliament House, despite the boycott by members of the Sunni Ittehad Council. Seats were reserved for three of their members, with nameplates set up for Ali Zafar, Barrister Gohar, and Hamid Raza, alongside nameplates for all 12 committee members.

Attendees of the meeting included prominent figures such as Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Farooq H. Naek, Kamran Murtaza, Rana Ansar, Ahsan Iqbal, Shaista Pervaiz Malik, Azam Nazeer Tarar, and Khawaja Asif.
