Dispute Over Development Funds Between Federal and Sindh Governments
The Ministry of Finance has addressed a letter to the Sindh government amidst a dispute over the release of development funds.
According to sources, the ministry has disbursed a total of Rs. 9.97 billion in development funds to all provinces, with Sindh receiving the highest amount of Rs. 5.58 billion this fiscal year.
In contrast, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received the smallest allocation of Rs. 390 million. Balochistan received over Rs. 3 billion, and Punjab was allocated Rs. 900 million. Despite receiving the highest development budget, Sindh has expressed dissatisfaction, citing delays in fund releases.
The Prime Minister had previously directed the Ministry of Finance and the Planning Ministry regarding development budget allocations. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah wrote to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, highlighting issues with the release of development funds.
The Ministry of Finance has assured that funds will be released according to the current year’s strategy, with 15% expected to be released in the first quarter and up to 40% in the final quarter of the fiscal year.
