Karachi witnessed a heartfelt reception for renowned Islamic scholar Dr. Zakir Naik, as he delivered a speech in Urdu after 12 years. The last time he spoke in Urdu was in Bangalore, India, and he expressed his joy at addressing a Pakistani audience once again.
Dr. Naik shared that since his migration from India, he had not had the opportunity to deliver a speech in Urdu. He expressed his long-standing wish to speak in Pakistan, either in Urdu or English, and was thrilled to finally do so.
During a public address in Karachi, Dr. Zakir Naik shared personal insights about his lifestyle, beliefs, and approach to life. He revealed that although he doesn’t prefer wearing suits, he does so to connect with non-Muslims, emphasizing that wearing a suit or tie is not prohibited in Islam.
“I respect all scholars and never claim that I alone am right,” he said, adding, “Alongside being a preacher, I am also a businessman. I have received expensive gifts and own millions, but my personal expenses are only around 500 dollars.”
Dr. Naik also commented on the simplicity of life, mentioning how expensive watches tell the same time as his $30 watch. “The majority of my income is spent in the path of Allah,” he said.
Talking about his travel choices, he shared that he flies in economy class. “I came to Pakistan on my own ticket in economy class. Many Pakistanis were surprised, as if I had done something wrong.”
He continued, “When I was arriving, people were shocked to see me in economy class. Some even asked, ‘Dr. Zakir Naik in economy?’ as if I had committed a sin.” He highlighted how some people refuse to travel if they don’t get business class tickets, basing their identity on wealth. “Once their wealth is gone, no one will even recognize them,” he remarked.
During his speech, Dr. Zakir Naik emphasized the importance of having a clear purpose in life, stating that many people today lack direction. He urged against merely copying others, highlighting that true purpose can only be understood through the guidance of Allah.
Dr. Naik further explained that according to Islamic teachings, the primary purpose of human creation is to worship Allah. He elaborated that worship includes living according to Allah’s commandments.
