48

The Federal Cabinet’s Energy Committee has approved the Independent System and Market Operators (ISMO) policy, which will allow electricity consumers to purchase power not only from the government but also from private operators.

Prime Minister emphasized that priority actions are being taken to reform Pakistan’s power sector. He stressed the need for quicker and more effective measures to reduce electricity theft and losses, and departmental action against employees of distribution companies involved in power theft.

According to the official statement, this decision will be ratified by the Federal Cabinet.

The implementation of this decision is expected to reduce electricity rates and gradually end the government’s role as the sole buyer of electricity.
