Over 80 Million People Suffering from Mental Health Issues in Pakistan

Pakistan is facing a significant rise in mental health disorders, with over 80 million people affected, according to figures presented by the Health Ministry in the National Assembly. The ministry disclosed that all major hospitals in the country offer mental health treatment, and 126 medical colleges have departments dedicated to psychiatry.

According to media reports, The ministry also highlighted that nicotine is a highly addictive substance and announced the formation of a working group, consisting of experts in public health, health product regulation, and tobacco control. This group will provide recommendations for regulating nicotine pouches. The Ministry of National Health clarified that no license has been issued to any cigarette company for the production or sale of nicotine pouches. The ministry’s primary objective remains the protection of public health by preventing tobacco use and related diseases.
