Karachi is witnessing a rise in cases of dengue, malaria, chikungunya, and viral infections, according to the Sindh Health Department.
The department reported 411 suspected cases of chikungunya in Sindh, with 153 cases confirmed. This year, 1,724 dengue cases have been reported across the province, with 1,484 cases originating from Karachi. Additionally, one fatality from dengue has been recorded in Sindh this year.
In terms of malaria, the Sindh Health Department reported 222,239 cases, with 1,768 cases reported in Karachi alone. Medical experts noted that around 50 patients visit Jinnah and Civil Hospitals daily, presenting symptoms such as fever, body pain, and swelling in the legs.
Experts expressed concern over the increasing number of suspected chikungunya cases this year. They highlighted that many citizens are not undergoing PCR tests due to the high costs associated with chikungunya diagnostic testing.
