The federal government has decided to run a nationwide polio eradication campaign this month, including in Afghan border districts of Pakistan. The campaign will be conducted in three phases.
The first phase will start on October 25 in Sindh. Due to Diwali, an early polio campaign will be carried out in the Mirpur Khas division. The second phase will begin on October 28 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including districts like Bannu, North and South Waziristan. In Dera Ismail Khan, Lakki Marwat, and Tank, the campaign will start on November 11.
A total of 45.4 million children will receive polio vaccinations across the country. In Punjab, 23.3 million children, in Sindh 10.6 million, in KP 7.3 million, and in Balochistan 2.65 million children will be vaccinated. In Islamabad, 461,125 children, in Azad Kashmir 740,000, and in Gilgit Baltistan 281,232 children will also receive polio drops.
Additionally, children aged 6 to 59 months will receive Vitamin A supplements during the campaign. Over 450,504 frontline workers will participate in the campaign to ensure its success.
