The government has faced challenges in procuring Mpox (Monkeypox) vaccines, with plans to initially purchase only 1,000 doses, according to media reports. The Ministry of Health has reached out to the World Health Organization (WHO) for assistance in acquiring the vaccine. WHO is actively working to facilitate the procurement of Mpox vaccines.
Globally, the price for a single dose of the Mpox vaccine exceeds $200, and there is a shortage of supply, media reports from the National Health Ministry revealed. In the first phase, 1,000 frontline health workers will be vaccinated, particularly those stationed at airports, seaports, and border areas. Additionally, healthcare staff treating Mpox patients will receive the vaccine.
Each individual requires two doses of the vaccine, with the second dose administered after a two-month interval, according to health ministry reports.
