Another Naegleria Fowleri Case Reported in Karachi, Fifth Death This Year

A new case of Naegleria Fowleri has been reported in Karachi, claiming another life. This brings the total number of deaths from the deadly amoeba to five this year in Sindh. Four of the deceased were from Karachi, while one was from Hyderabad.
 
The latest victim, Shamim Aamir, had been receiving treatment at a private hospital for the past 12 days and passed away this morning after his condition worsened. Naegleria Fowleri is an incurable disease that enters the brain through the nose and mouth, gradually destroying brain tissue.
 
The amoeba thrives in specific temperatures and when there is insufficient chlorine in the water. Symptoms include high fever, bleeding from the nose, ears, and mouth, body stiffness, and seizures.
 
The deaths occurred in July and August, with three in July, one in August, and one reported today. The Sindh Health Department has confirmed these fatalities.
