Federal Minister for Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan stated that his role is not to operate or repair Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) but solely to oversee its sale. Speaking to the media in Lahore, he explained that the privatization process for PIA had already been set in motion, and he does not have the authority to alter the framework.
Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized that PIA’s losses cannot be borne by the public, which is why the airline is being sold. “My responsibility is only to sell PIA; running or fixing it isn’t my duty,” he stated.
He mentioned that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had expressed interest in purchasing the airline, and he clarified that the airline won’t be sold at a loss. “If all four provinces wish to jointly acquire PIA, it would be a positive step. With proper management, PIA could become a great airline once again,” he added, recalling how he used to prefer PIA for travel to the UK.
