Power Division Reveals Over Rs 979 Billion Paid to 33 IPPs in One Year

The Power Division has disclosed in the National Assembly that over Rs 979.29 billion was paid to 33 Independent Power Producers (IPPs) from July 2023 to June 2024 as capacity payments. According to the details presented, Rs 718 billion was paid to 8 IPPs using local and imported coal for electricity generation, while Rs 106 billion was paid to 3 IPPs generating electricity through hydropower. Additionally, 11 IPPs producing electricity from furnace oil received over Rs 81.60 billion. The assembly also reviewed three years of losses incurred by K-Electric and Hyderabad Electric Supply Company during the Q&A session.
