The federal government will temporarily increase the inland freight equalization margin (IFEM) by Rs. 2.5 per liter on petrol, diesel, and other fuels to fund $5-6 billion refinery upgrade projects. The additional revenue will be directed to ESCROW accounts until the next federal budget.
