Punjab’s Senior Minister, Maryam Aurangzeb, has declared a health emergency in Lahore and Multan due to worsening smog conditions. Addressing a press conference, she announced a complete lockdown in both cities on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Construction activities will also be banned from this Saturday until the following Sunday.
The minister stated that health desks have been established, hospital staff leaves have been canceled, and authorities have been instructed to ensure sufficient supplies of medicines. Residents have been urged to avoid using motorcycles unless necessary and to wear masks while outdoors.
She further mentioned that data will be reviewed by Wednesday. “The smog has turned into a health crisis,” she said, emphasizing that the Punjab government is taking all possible steps to combat smog. Additionally, a 10-year policy has been introduced to prevent future smog issues.
