Gas Price Hike Expected for Domestic Consumers for the Fourth Time in Two Years

6
A potential fourth gas price increase in two years may soon impact domestic consumers. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is set to hold hearings on Sui Northern Gas’s application in Lahore today and Sui Southern’s application in Karachi on November 8.
The proposals include a 3.66% price increase for Islamabad, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and a 53.47% rise for Sindh and Balochistan. Sui Northern has requested an average rate hike of PKR 64.16 per MMBTU, aiming for a total of PKR 1,810.38 per MMBTU, while Sui Southern seeks an increase of PKR 669.07 per MMBTU, totaling PKR 1,920.39 per MMBTU.
The gas companies have called for these increases starting July 1, 2024. Since January 2023, prices have risen three times, with an estimated PKR 953 billion burden placed on consumers over the past two years.
