Karachi: A scrutiny committee has revealed that more than 1,000 teachers in Karachi have been absent from duty. The committee submitted its report to the Secretary of Education.

In response, the Secretary of Education has issued orders to all District Education Officers (DEOs) to stop the salaries of the absent teachers. An official letter has also been sent out to enforce the directive.

In Karachi’s District East alone, 48 teachers from government schools were reported as absent.

Sources further indicated that several teachers have gone abroad on leave.
