Minister of State for IT, Shaza Fatima, announced a record 33.54% increase in Pakistan’s IT exports during the first quarter of the current fiscal year (July to September).

During this period, IT exports reached $876 million, compared to $656 million in the same quarter last year.

According to Shaza Fatima, IT exports saw further growth in September 2024, with remittances rising to $292 million, marking a 41.7% increase compared to September 2023, when exports were $206 million.

She attributed this significant increase to government measures aimed at facilitating business operations.

Meanwhile, the country continues to face prolonged internet disruptions and slowdowns. In recent days, mobile data issues have persisted in most areas, with users struggling to download or upload images and audio files. This ongoing internet slowdown has caused frustration among freelancers, software houses, e-commerce companies, and everyday users. Social media platforms have also experienced frequent outages.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has provided several dates promising full restoration of internet services, but users are still not receiving satisfactory connectivity.

IT experts, e-commerce specialists, freelancers, and software houses have expressed serious concerns regarding this situation. They believe that while the global tech industry is advancing rapidly, Pakistan might fall behind if these internet issues are not resolved soon, limiting the country’s ability to compete with other nations in this field.
