A hearing regarding the supply of drinking water and drainage in Sukkur took place, with the Secretary of Finance, the Mayor of Sukkur, the Deputy Commissioner, and other officials present at the Sindh High Court Sukkur Bench.
The Municipal Corporation’s lawyer stated that nine pumping stations have been set up for drainage. However, he mentioned that 35% of the city’s water is going into the river through treatment plants. The total cost of drainage projects is 2,296 million, and 826 million has already been received.
The court questioned where the 800 million received was spent, stating, “What projects are running in Sindh? This is not related to us.” Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan asked for details on the success of the project in Sukkur and demanded the project proposal.
The court emphasized that it is not the court’s responsibility to get funds from the Finance Department. The Mayor of Sukkur was instructed to serve the public, and the municipal lawyer was told to pursue the case. The court ordered a laboratory test of the water and submission of the report by the next hearing.
The Sindh High Court Sukkur Bench postponed the hearing until November 5.
