Pakistan has intensified its actions against smuggling disguised as transit trade, resulting in a significant reduction in Afghan transit trade.
Sources reveal that Afghan transit trade saw an 86% decline in September on an annual basis. Last month, Afghan transit trade was recorded at $78.3 million, compared to $545.1 million in September 2023.
Additionally, Afghan transit trade in September saw a 16% drop compared to August. From July to September, the annual decrease in Afghan transit trade was recorded at 85%, according to sources. In the first quarter of the current fiscal year, Afghan transit trade stood at $269.4 million.
In comparison, the total trade volume from July to September 2023 was $1.76 billion. The previous fiscal year saw a reduction of $4.21 billion in Afghan transit trade, bringing the total for fiscal year 2023-24 to $2.88 billion. In the fiscal year 2022-23, Afghan transit trade amounted to $7.09 billion.
