In a recent water quality testing campaign conducted by the Water Corporation, the presence of Vibrio cholerae, a bacteria that causes cholera, was discovered in water samples from 15 towns in Karachi.
Out of 160 pumping station samples, 32 were found to be contaminated with the bacteria.
Managing Director of the Water Corporation, Salahuddin, confirmed that the contaminated tanks at the pumping stations were thoroughly cleaned. He added that 80% of the water samples were deemed up to standard. However, health experts expressed concern over the findings, particularly in areas like Lyari, Orangi, Malir, SITE, and North Karachi.
Health experts have warned that Vibrio cholerae can lead to cholera, a serious and potentially life-threatening disease if not treated promptly.
