Pakistani student Dania Zaheer was seriously injured after being hit by a speeding vehicle in Houston, Texas. The accident left her with multiple fractures, including a broken pelvis, hip, arm, and leg. The driver fled the scene, and the Houston Police Department (HPD) is still searching for the suspect.
Dania, 25, moved to Houston from Pakistan on a student visa, aiming to complete her master’s degree in business administration from North American University. She was crossing the street at Westheimer and Sage when the accident happened. Her memory is unclear about the moment of the impact, but she recalls waking up in the hospital.
Doctors at Memorial Hermann Hospital revealed that she has several broken bones and fluid in her lungs, which is making it hard for her to breathe.
Dania feels uncertain about her future, saying, “I had a bright future, but now, I can’t see anything.”
Dania’s parents cannot afford to travel to the U.S., and she is facing this situation alone, without any family support in Texas. Despite her promising academic career, she now feels lost and hopeless.
The police are searching for video evidence and witnesses to find the driver responsible for the accident. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to set up a fund to help Dania and connect her with local resources for support.
The family of Dania Zaheer is appealing for prayers and support for her fast recovery after the tragic hit-and-run accident in Houston. They have launched a fundraising campaign to help cover her medical expenses. Anyone willing to donate can contribute through the following link: GoFundMe
Consul General of Pakistan Aftab Chaudhary and former federal minister Babar Ghauri visited Zaheer to check up on her at the hospital.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has also taken notice of the accident, directing the consul general in Texas to help the student in every way possible.
Expressing concern over the incident, Dar prayed for the successful operation of the Pakistani student. “If the family of the injured student wants to go to Houston, we will help them as much as possible,” he said.
Dar also said that the government will provide all possible support to Zaheer, adding that she should not consider herself alone.
