LONDON: In a tragic incident, 12 people lost their lives while attempting to enter the UK by sea, after their boat capsized. Among the victims were six children and a pregnant woman. Only two of the deceased were men.
The French coast guard managed to rescue 50 people from the accident, who were on the same boat trying to reach the UK from France.
British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. According to media reports, the boat was overloaded, leading to the fatal incident. So far this year, 21,000 people have attempted to cross from France to the UK via the sea.
The media has reported that human traffickers are involved in illegal smuggling operations from France to the UK.
