Monsoon Alert: Heavy Rainfall Expected in Sindh, Urban Flooding Risk in Karachi

Karachi: The Meteorological Department has issued a monsoon alert as a deep depression over Rajasthan, India, has moved westward. Currently located over Gujarat, India, the system is expected to gradually move towards the west-southwest, reaching the Rann of Kutch, northeastern Arabian Sea, and the adjacent coastal areas of Pakistan by the night of August 28 and early morning of August 29.
Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds is expected in Karachi Division until August 31, with chances of heavy to very heavy downpours in some areas. The department has warned of the risk of urban flooding in Karachi and several districts of rural Sindh.
Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Kashmore, Qambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Shikarpur districts. Additionally, widespread heavy rainfall is predicted in Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Dadu, and Shaheed Benazirabad districts until August 31.
The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the open sea until August 31 due to rough sea conditions.
