Cotton Production in Pakistan Severely Affected by Climate Change and Reduced Cultivation

35

Cotton arrivals in Pakistan have sharply declined by 49.2% as of August 15, with only 1.075 million bales reported, according to the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA). In August 2023, 2.011 million bales were recorded.

The PCGA also reported that cotton arrivals from Sindh have decreased by 53.9% year-on-year, with only 682,292 bales received. Meanwhile, cotton arrivals from Punjab have dropped by 38.3% year-on-year, totaling 392,736 bales.

This significant decline in cotton production is attributed to the effects of climate change and reduced cultivation across the country.
